At this point in time, we are unable to maintain the website in a way that meets current UK 
accessibility requirements. To ensure continued access to the wealth of information it contains, 
we have archived the website and made the data available for download.


What this archive contains
==========================

The archived data for the Checklist of the British and Irish Basidiomycota provides information on
all species of the fungal phylum Basidiomycota (including mushrooms and toadstools, bracket fungi, 
puffballs, earthstars and stinkhorns, club and coral fungi, tooth fungi, jelly fungi, rusts and 
smuts) recorded in the British Isles. The archive is based on the original database used to create 
the book version of the checklist published in 2005, and includes all subsequent updates up to 
2020. The site was archived in December 2025.


Why this change was necessary
=============================

UK accessibility regulations require public-facing websites to meet specific standards so that they
are usable by as many people as possible. The Checklist of the British & Irish Basidiomycota 
website's underlying technology could not be updated to meet those standards, so archiving the site 
and providing the data in an alternative format was the most appropriate solution.
